The second essay. Where The Last Scarce Good argued that Bitcoin’s constitutional scarcity is the one credible coordination anchor between humans and machine intelligences whose values cannot be verified, this essay turns to the community that already holds the anchor — and argues that its own narrative is its attack surface. In sixteen years Bitcoin has never faced a coordinated establishment attack, because it has never yet been threat enough to justify one; that test lies ahead, at gold-parity scale, and the “sound money vs fiat” story is what schedules it. The essay proposes the exit: the second nature no one could see in 2009 — Bitcoin as the neutral registry of human–machine coexistence — which aligns the interests the first story divides, and turns the coalition that would attack the anchor into its users.
The essay engages the AI-safety field’s current map (AI 2027) and its positive proposal (AI 2040: Plan A), and argues that Plan A’s verification architecture is missing exactly one layer — the record no party owns — which Bitcoin already is.
